Well this year I got things started a bit earlier while I was waiting for my overhang/pergola to get built I decided to empty the pond and get that cleaned up. Then things lead to another and now I have most of it torn apart. I figured since everything else is ripped up I might as well try to level the pond. After getting the bigger rocks/boulders moved out of the way I realized I can not do much more until I figured what to do behind the garage.
Behind the garage used to have a small garden framed by some limestone blocks. After getting the garage torn down and rebuilt there isn't much except a pile of left over dirt and some gravel coming out from under the garage. So I am thinking it needs to be a raised garden for vegetables again. This time I am going to go higher than what I had before. So this past weekend I staked out where the retaining wall will go. After some thinking I think it will be 4 feet deep by the length of the garage and the height about foot and half. I might be shorting it, but still have some other details to work out. Unfortunately I can not do much until I get this part done as some of the pond will be leaning on it.
The other thing I got started is some plants for the garden this year. I got out the seed started that I got a couple years ago. I am definitely going to be trying something different next year. Though things seem to be going well I have about 30 plants of two different tomato plants. I have about 15 pepper plants and some herb plants starting as well. So I should be all set when I get the above projects done.
Today the contactor was able to get the overhang done today and it is gorgeous. To see pictures check out the Garage 2013 pages. It really did turn out really nice and now I need to get everything else up to par. It is going to be nice now, I am hoping to start some grape plants on the end toward the house, I just have to figure out what type to get.
As always I just need to keep plugging away and hopefully I can keep my inspiration going. Hope to keep posting all summer, mostly in the Pond and Garage sections as I do things. Maybe if you are lucky I will post a blog entry as well :-). Have fun...
