Solution: Build a workbench with a butcher block top, a few drawers and a shelf at the bottom. I went with a 8'x4' butcher block counter top and the rest was built with pressure treated 2x4s or plywood. The base is back a bit to prevent me from kicking it and there is a lip around the top to help clamp things to it. The drawers are simple and have no track and durable enough to hold heavy tools. The only addition to the plans that I have listed is that I added some handles to the drawers.
Result: It is a very usable work bench, could use something above or on the wall to better organize things and maybe add some better lighting.
