The rains have stopped after almost two weeks of off and on rain. It took a few days afterwards to dry up enough to work on the garden. Got the long garden planted first with the tomatoes, peppers, onions and a set of cantaloupe. After watching some videos, I decided to try using blood meal, bone meal and pot ash. Though I don't think I used them properly, unfortunately I didn't read the packaging until after everything was planted. So I might end up burning plants that are already malnourished.
How I used the components is I put about a half of a hand full of blood meal and pot ash. Then I spread bone meal around the edges and bottom of the hole, then put the plant in and covered things up. It was not recommended to have the pot ash and the blood meal so close to the roots. So it might help, might not or it will burn the plants. The onions I only put the bone meal and the pot ash.
The next day I put the rest of the cantaloupe in the trellis garden. I also found that I had a watermelon which I put in the flower/big garden with a cage to protect it from animals. I just put the bone meal in the holes. The last day I put in the zucchini and the yellow squash in the big garden. Again only putting in bone meal in the holes. Figured there was plenty of nitrogen from the mulch to add much of anything else.
