Games Day and Gencon....

Submitted by wafy on

The last two weeks have been pretty busy for me. Did a little traveling to Chicago for Games Day, then spent about 3 days with some family and then 4 days of fun at Gencon. Over all it was pretty fun in all 3 places.

Games Day, saw some pretty cool models and game boards. Spent some money on some terrain and a few minis, which I hope to have put together and painted by spring. I doubt that is going to happen, but heres to hoping.

Hats off to a group that put together $32,000 for Doctors without Borders. They had some awesome looking armies and terrain, and all for a great cause. I hope they are going to continue their work. Here are a few pictures I took of their board.

Looking at the Golden Demon entries as inspired me once again. I have a couple ideas, I just need to find the time to dig into them and get them flushed out and modeled and painted. One of these years I am going to make it in there I am sure of it. Even the Armies on Parade looked impressive, even got a couple terrain ideas from a couple of the entries.  Those people put in a lot of work and detail in their work and it is inspiring I hope to be their some day. Here are some of my favorites.

This one the thunder lizard is a Dewback from a Star Wars collection. The guy said he had two of them and strip one down and re painted it.

Gencon was also a lot of fun. Didn't do as much as I would like, but still had some fun and spent way too much money. I ended up getting more minis and some start sets for Hordes and Warmachine. Also at the auction I picked up some new pieces for my Star Wars collection, not the best shape but still nice. Here to they have a painter/modeler's section and saw a couple Games Workshop based minis which looked pretty good. Maybe I can enter Golden Demon and this to get two awards, only in my dreams.

Did see in person a cool rendition of Robo Rally using Lego Mindstorm, which for the most part worked pretty nicely. They even had RFID cards that a sorter machine would read in and later deal out the cards. I might have to try that next year if they or I come back, it looked like a lot of fun just watching it.

Didn't actually play a lot of games, demo'd a couple existing games such as Call of C'lutho the LCG and Hordes. As I said before I picked up some Hordes minis. I might yet pick up the LCG but I need to find people to play with yet. I also got to see a game of a new Star Wars LCG coming out next year.

As for next year, it depends on my budget. A few people pointed out that it is not that important to go and I need to take care of other things first. So I am going to see if I can put together about 2k for a trip next year. If I can't I will not go. There are a few things I need to get done to the house, that I have been putting off too long. Overall I really can't wait until next year, hopefully a few other people that make going fun will be able to make it.
