Had a pretty good tournament at Dungeon's End in Duluth. It was their first 40k tournament and it went very smooth. I didn't do too bad battle wise, I went 1-1-1. The first game was against Chaos Marines, with a player that hasn't played in about a year. I did surprisingly well against him and my deftkopters took out all the vehicles and the lootas at least wrecked another vehicle. The nobs and the boyz took care of most of the rest. We both took heavy causalities, but in the end I beat him by kill points.
The second game differently was not my best game. This game was against a more experienced player playing gray knights. My Big Mek unit and my loota unit was taken out with in the first couple turns, so all of my shooting was gone. My Nob squad especially the Warboss and the Pain Boy took a lot of hits but in the last turn they were wiped out, along with everything else. Again not my finest game.
The third and final game was against a newer player that was still kind of learning his army. He was playing just basic marines, though I am not sure what his HQ was. With that game I was able to take out most of his foot slogging troops. He had a surprising amount of foot sloggers and only a few vehicles. His units held up pretty well due to their special ability of being stubborn. This game ended up with a draw, in everything.
In the end I didn't get any award related to battle, but thanks to a brilliant painter and modeler stepping down from the painting score, I won the painting/modeling award. So it was kind of bittersweet victory, but from what I heard I ended up with a much higher score than the others that had painted armies. Considering the paint job he had on his velcories I am kind of glad he stepped down, he had murals on the wings and the side of the cockpits. Needless to say I really didn't have a chance. I have a couple idea of what to do the bring my army up a few levels, I just need to find the time to do it. Maybe a project for later, or at least I will show you the results when they are ready. For the reward I got a $30 gift certificate that I picked up a couple more loota units and they also gave us a certificate.
One of reasons I think that the tournament went so smoothly was that they handed out a packet with the scenarios and the results sheets. It was an idea that I think worked out pretty nicely. The timing of the rounds were pretty good also, despite playing foot slogging ork army I was able to get to at least turn 4 or 5 for each round. For a tournament we started about 10:30 am, we finished pretty early at 7 pm.
