Problem: Back in high school I had created a desk for my computers. Through college I trimmed it down to make it easier to move. Over the years the "cabinet" part of the desk got less useful especially after the size of my monitors grew. Now I bought a monitor stand to hold multiple monitors that is way wider than my desk. While it is use able it is time for a new desk. Given I had inherited some new wood working tools and small workshop in my garage I wanted to build a desk.
Solution: Need to build a basic but usable desk for use with a computer. I don't need a cabinet and should be long enough for my monitor stand to live on. Also want room to put things on the top to work on with out the keyboard and mouse getting in the way.
Result: Built a 60" L x 30" W x 31" H desk with a keyboard tray that also has room for other office things in the back. As with most of my projects they are not perfect but they work. I needed to reinforce the drop down front of the keyboard try with a thin piece of oak, as the hinges were coming out and the 1/4" plywood I used on the bottom was warping. I still need to remount the draw as it is down about 1/4" from the top so it is bit noisy when I type. Other then the scratch I put in it the first day I used it, it is in good shape.
