Waterfall Pond - 2012

Submitted by wafy on

This year I started a few days earlier, but could have started almost two months ago. Eventually I will learn. As I did last year I am hoping to keep it going a bit longer this year. If everything goes right I might be able to get fish. But we will see if that comes about. Below are what I have done this year so far.

On 10-13 I took down the pond for the winter. I removed the pump and cleaned it up and put it in a bucket of water. I have also took out the lillies and cut off all foilage and roots that are outside the pot. I put these into a bin and left them damp. Both are put into a room in the basement that has not external light. I am going to try and check up on them during the winter and make sure that the pots say moist and the pump's bucket has enough water.

Overall I this year has went much better than previous year in algae control. I really didn't have much of a problem with that at all this year. Though I think I might be having a new problem which would be snails. I have been seeing shells when I go to clean the pump and from what I have read they can be fine to have as long as they don't get out of control. I am going to look into it more and ask some more questions this spring.
