Wafy's World

1 Down 29 more to go...

Submitted by wafy on

It is officially been a year since I started the slow, lengthy process of keeping a home and owning it free and clear, only 29 more years to go. It's been an educational year. Learned that shoveling the snow has some health benefits, as does pushing the lawn mower around. Also mowing your own lawn isn't as bad as mowing your parent's lawn, I think it is a pride thing. Paying a mortgage payment is about the same as trying to pay rent, but instead you are in a way saving the money instead of throwing it out.

End of a Year and Start of another...

Submitted by wafy on

Once again end of another year, accomplished a few things this year. Got my house, found some new friends to game with, have what seems like a stable job and even got to plant a garden. Didn't find the person of my dreams, but the search continues, I guess. Still have the goal of getting into shape, luckily I didn't gain anything this year, even lost a little. I hope to get some more projects done this year, might even try to start another site. Well good-bye to 2010, may 2011 be even more fruitful and inspiring than previous years and may yours be full of inspiration.

World War Z (in with 40k Rules) at Event Horizon

Submitted by wafy on

Played an interesting game yesterday in Waseca at Event Horizons. The event guy for our 40k nights found some rules on line for a narrative Zombies vs Imperials. He modified it a bit to make it non-narrative and it turned out pretty good, and still pretty challenging. We didn't make it all the way, but the premise was we were in a building at one end of the table and the communications were knocked out and there was an artifact that turned everyone else into zombies. We needed to get to the other end of the table to a civilian communications tower and send for a pick up. Then basically try to get to the pickup point with out dying. As you go along zombies spawn based on where you are and what you did that turn. Due to time constraints we were only able to make it to the civilian tower. John, the guy running the scenario, was nice enough to have a couple of the guys that died be at the tower. With a few minor rule adjustments it was pretty good and we had a chance. Not exactly something to play during a holiday season, but it would be fun for some Friday the 13th weekend or a Halloween get together. Below are some pics I took.

Fun Tournament at The Source

Submitted by wafy on

Had some fun this weekend, at The Source in Falcon Heights, MN. There was a team tournament that was definently unconventional. Had some interesting scenarios where it made you think a bit differently and meant to be fun. My teammate was from Duluth, MN and he brought his Daemons. But the models he is using are ones he has mashed together, with a bit of an ork theme. His most popular model is a gundum model mashed with a ork truck, which he exfectently calls Orkimus Prime.   So our team was orks and daemon orks, we played in a few different combinations. My orks were a warboss, 30 ard boys and 9 nobs with a trukk. The Ork players we played against were generally 3 units of 30 ork boyz. So needless to say we didn't get many turns in. The first two games were Orks with Blood Angles, and the last game was Thousand Suns and Ultramarines. All were very fun to play against.

Modular Game Board

Submitted by wafy on

I finished the modular game board, and found it lacking. I think most of the problems is my craftmanship, which needs a lot of work. The biggest problem was that I found the screw in nuts after I tried to glue in regular nuts, and tried to use the same wood. Most of them seem stable enough, but found a few that I think I just need to be rebuild. I tried it out on my dining room table and the ends were to weak because of the unstable screw in nuts, so there were raised gaps. I also found that I some how I gained about a 1/4" some place and the boards don't fit as snug as I would like. Over all I don't think the design isn't so bad.

Project Week Day 7

...And of the 7th day he rested Goofed Off. Well not entirely true, too a look at my game board frame bolt nut connections. I think what I really need is a thicker nut. But I was to lazy today to run up the hill to a hardware store to see if I could find something. Oh well, tomorrow is my last day of freedom and back to the grind again. Already have had a few work issues to deal with, got to love non-vacation time. I guess I just need to get the guys trained in so that I don't have to deal with it and I can focus on programming. Like that will ever happen.

Project Week Day 6

Got the garden finished, though I realized after it was dark out that I still needed to take care of my over hang. It has some latse on the top that I need to take off before the snow comes. I should be able to get to it by the end of the weekend, I hope. So the yard is pretty much ready for spring, in the spring I will split root balls and we should be good there.
