Vegetable Garden Journal: 2022-06-03

Finally got around to planting things in the garden. Everything is just late this year except the potatoes and the radishes. Everything else was late to restart, late to come up, and just late to get big enough to transplant outside. I definitely need to start things at the beginning of February or maybe even January. I have some friends that are harvesting already for tomatoes. It is crazy.

Well enough moping and at least I got things into the ground. I had gotten some new seeds for my salad wine barrel. A new red swiss chard, spinach and lettuce, and got those in along with some more sugar peas and another swiss chard. So maybe I will eat some more salad this summer.

In the long garden, I filled it with tomatoes. I have 4 of each type of tomatoes, double with the Brandy wine. I have them lining the back again, as that seemed to work pretty well. I went 2 to a cage as I am hoping to keep up with the trimming again this year.  I also changed the direction my bean rows go. I changed it so it is parallel to the garage. There should be enough room to stand to get to the tomatoes, but it will make it easier for me to pick beans later or make it easier for the animals to eat. Either way it is different. I put the peppers toward my pond again as they need lots of light, I did 4 of the Jalapenos and the only Serrano that I had.

When I transferred the plants to the bigger pots this last time it turns out I had some tag alongs. So I have 3 extra tomatoes that I have no idea what they are, but are most likely one of the 3 that I planted. So I planted all 3 just to see what they were and figured it will just give me some extra tomatoes. One even had a Jalapeno with the tomato, I just planted both together as 3 is more than enough Jalapenos for my needs.

After I got everything planted I dosed them with the spray on Miracle Grow fertilizer which gave them a good soaking too. Hopefully it will rain tomorrow to give them another good soaking. From the looks of it, it will be cloudy and possibly rain for the next few days. Hopefully the sun will poke out to get them acclimated to the sun and their new environment. I will check in when I see more.
