End Social Apps

Submitted by wafy on

I am a nobody, so what I am saying here is my own opinion and the way I currently feel. I think it is time for #endsocialapps. There are many compelling reasons to delete our social accounts. From it is tearing this country apart to relationships reduced to an app. I recently deleted my X and Facebook accounts, because my relationships were reduced to an app along with other reasons. While I will probably miss out with a lot, but I am ready to move on from centralized Social Media. I am not quite ready for Fediverse, but that might be a future option where I can control my data.

Piece of history restored

My Great Grandfather was a cabinet maker. He made a number of wooden items for my Grandfather, my Dad and my Dad's siblings. Some of it has lasted the ages in good condition and just have out lasted their usefulness. Others were not so lucky and ended up getting thrown out. Which I am guessing is the nature of inherited items. Things that have a use, get used and taken care of, while other things break and have no use so they are tossed. The number of things that survive the ages slowly dwindle as thing like these do.

Mulching Big Flower Garden 2020

Submitted by wafy on

Decided to try mulching the flower garden every 2 years. I tried 3 years and there were a lot of weeks coming through. Given the size of the garden every year just seems like a lot of work and money. I was going to try to do bulk mulch, but I was conflicted on where to put the mulch before I put the weed barrier down. Given there are a lot of plants it would be difficult to put the weed barrier down and dump the mulch on top. Just a logistical nightmare, for me at least. Maybe some day I will figure that out.

Release the hounds...

Well I have done it, They are by no means complete, but they are a start and something I can share with the internet. They are part resume, part hobby and part future business hopes. I have put a couple projects out that I have been working off and on for the past few years. One I have even had the domain for about 7+ years and only worked on the project about 6 months ago. I created a new blog site that I hope to put some of the stuff that I have learned while making these projects. The blog you can find at wafys-tools.com.

Catching up...

Submitted by wafy on

It has been some time since I have written and a lot of things have changed in my life about 5 years ago. That and I needed a break from sharing too much. Things are still changed, but trying to get back to other things that are also important to me. In this blog post I hope to catch you up to what has changed in my life and how things have been going. This might be a longish post, but it also has been about 5 years since I last posted. I will try to keep things simple and only give you the highlights. Things might also get a little political, but I will try to keep it light.

Springtime again...

Submitted by wafy on

Well this year I got things started a bit earlier while I was waiting for my overhang/pergola to get built I decided to empty the pond and get that cleaned up. Then things lead to another and now I have most of it torn apart. I figured since everything else is ripped up I might as well try to level the pond. After getting the bigger rocks/boulders moved out of the way I realized I can not do much more until I figured what to do behind the garage.

Good enough for now...

The garage is to the point where it is at least usable for the winter. It is by no means finished, but is to a point where it is at least usuable. Today the electricians and the overhead door people showed up and got things installed. There are a few things that still need to happen. On the inside, there is some trim that needs to be installed, the insulation needs to be installed on the garage door and just some final touchs. On the outside there is a "lean to" canopy like thing that still needs to be built.

Garage is getting closer...

Submitted by wafy on

Well, it is almost the end of the month and luckily the snow has been nice enough to stay away, here at least. The garage is getting closer and it is looking I might be able to use it yet this winter, before the snow flies. About the only thing that is in question right now is whether or not there will be a garage door. I have been keeping record of changes and pictures in a book located in the House page under Garage 2013.

Quick Update on the Garage

Submitted by wafy on

Thanks to some rain, things are more or less on hold which I think help reconcile a problem. I have to say sincere thanks to the contractor for being patient with me, for coming out on this wet night to help put my mind at ease and helping put things right. One of the things that was concerning me was when the masons put in the form for the garage slab, they ended up moving the front end of the garage up about 4-6 inches (depending your measurements).

Getting stuff done.

Submitted by wafy on

Well as I said in the spring there is a lot that I wanted to get done this summer and it turns out I am getting it done. I was able to split up some root balls in the main garden. I was a bit earlier for some and others I think I was too late, but next spring will decide what survives and what doesn't.
