Vegetable Garden Journal: 2020-05-15

Well after a couple very cold nights it is looking like the frost is behind us. I probably could have planted yesterday, but needed to finish another project. One thing I have figured out is that I need to be a bit more conscience of what I am going to put into the garden when I plant the onions and even with the garlic. I shouldn't plant so much of those so I can fit the other things I need. Oh by the way I planted garlic about mid-September last year. I am hoping to pull those in the next month or so.

So what notes do I have. Planted 8 tomato plants, 3 jalepeno plants and a watermelon plant from the starter plants. The watermelon I put in a tomato cage so we can let it climb that. My partner doesn't think we have enough sun in the garden to do watermelon, but hoping to prove him wrong. I didn't plant the zucchini  and yellow squash yet, as I want to put that in the flower garden and I want to mulch that this year but don't have the supplies yet. I hoping to do that next week.

With the seeds I pretty much planted what I have saved over the past 2 years. The green beans were from last year, and the cucumbers were from 2018 and last year. The green beans I chose the more clean white ones and spaced them. I took the smaller green ones that didn't look so good and sprinkled them over the rows before covering them up. Figured I could space them out later if need be. I put the rows between the two sets of tomatoes against the cages there should be enough space to stand to grab the tomatoes and beans. The cumbers I pretty much dumped the lot 1 and lot 2 pickle cucumbers as I wasn't sure if they would work. The long cucumbers I was a little more careful and put about 12 seeds down.

We have a couple wine barrels closer to the house, one has a perpetual cycle of Dill and Cilantro which looks to be doing good. The other we have an heir loom cherry tomato plant that doesn't seem to have came up yet. I have added some basil seeds and green onion seeds to that one so we will see how that works. I haven't had much luck with the green onion, though some did come up last year but not very big.
