Today I pulled the onions. Probably should have pulled them earlier, but was hoping they would grow bigger. They all came out pretty small, but there are some that are usable. There are few that I might just put back into the ground for next year. My partner says it is because of where they were in the garden and that they were not getting enough light. That might be partly true, but I think there are a couple other factors he is over looking. The soil is a bit stiff I probably could try breaking up the soil more before planting and while they are growing break up the soil around them. There might have been some outside influences as well, as we have a deer that likes to munch on our plants and might have laid on them, and breaking the stems too early.
The other possibility is nutrients in the soil. Previous years I have had garden soid in the soil from when I built the garden. Much of the nutrients from that may be exhausted, and I need to fertilize. I know that is true for my bigger garden that I put the summer squashes in, they didn't grow much and also the deer got to them. Everything else in the garden seems to be growing slow this year and I think it is because I didn't fertilize. Something I will look at more next year.
Was able to start picking beans a few weeks ago that I should have made an entry for. Picked some more this past weekend. The tomatoes have started, but are still green. We even have a couple watermelon coming too. The peppers seem to be slow this year as well. More things to consider next year.
