Garden officially started today, got everything in the ground at least. Whether they will survive the weather we will see. Temp-wise I think we are good, supposed to hit 70ish today and for the next 10 days. We will see if the weather people get it right or not. I did try setting out the tray of plants that I started from seed a few times to accumulate them to the sun. From the looks of the plants they were getting sun ready leaves, I just think I should have started that sooner and more often. Compared to the purchased plants the started plants were pretty light.

The raised garden I am trying some more inter-cropping, not a huge amount. This year I put the tomatoes along the backside of the garden and planted everything else in front of them. Giving me just enough room to put my feet. I want to try trimming my tomatoes this year a bit, so they aren't so wild. I might even try replanting a cut sucker while I am at it. In front of the tomatoes I put a few rows of beans, some from last year and some from the previous year. They will be closer to the edge so I don't need to leave the edge of the raised garden to get to them.

I also did a row each of radishes and carrots. They are very old seed so I don't know if they will sprout or not. I haven't had much luck growing radish or carrots, mainly because I don't know when they are ready to pull.  I will have to so a bit more research on that, I have added 1st Harvest column to my year page to help gauge that a bit more.

I put the zucchini and yellow squash where I normally do. Hopefully the deer and other animals will stay away. I put one of my tomato cages on each of them, which might help keep them away. I also put the cucumbers on the trellis again. I dumped a few more seeds with the 2 that started. If they grow great otherwise I am not concerned. I put in a couple cantaloupes, one in the trellis garden and the other at the end of the raised garden. The one at the trellis only has one sprout, the other had 3. I figured I would let the cantaloupe grow toward the pond, which give them plenty of sun and space.

The onions are looking good and the potatoes started to sprout. The asparagus seems a bit more productive this year, going to try and stay on top of harvesting those. About 5 days ago I took one of the wine barrels I have and planted some Romaine Lettuce, Spinach, Sugar peas, green onion and Swiss Chard. Didn't get a journal out for that, but it was a bit chilly yet. I figured it wouldn't hurt the seeds too much, we shall see. The seeds are a bit old, so there are a couple factors against them.

I did fertilized a bit early this year, right after planting. Used my spray-on Miracle Grow fertilizer, which leaks when I use spray that I needed for most of the garden. That should help spur some growth. I will probably spray again in a couple week and I will post when I do.
