Today I came home to masons working on putting in the garage slab. I was kind of surprised because of the rain we got over the last 4 day, but they were pretty confident in putting it in. Considering their schedule I can kind of understand. I had a chance to talk to them a bit, and it sounds like, if they have the time, they will be putting in the half-brick in tomorrow. That would mean the builders can get going on their side. Also talking to them it sounds like they will not put on the "apron" or driveway until at least most of the garage is built and it sounds like I might have a few options when that comes around.
One of the ideas for the garage apron is to only have it maybe a foot out of the garage door, and have the sideway meet it. That would leave a section on the other side to have a small front garden like I had previously, just about double the size. We will see if that is advisable or not.
An interesting thing which I did quite caught why they have them, there are two pieces of foam on toward the front of the slab. I was told they were there and not to remove them. I am guessing they might be quality checks or "doneness" checks? I am not sure, I am only guessing. They are weighted down with some good sized rocks used to line a garden, so I am leaning more toward the quality checks.
You will also notice the rods sticking out of the cement as well. These from what I have been told from other people are used to tie the frame of the building to the cement.
As you might see in this picture the driveway is getting pretty beat up. There were some pretty deep ruts in the driveway. It is good thing that cement trucks usually have some good sized tires on them compared to consumer cars, otherwise it might get stuck. Did notice some spilled cement in there as well, which I guessing isn't a big deal.
